Afionas – Porto Timoni
Afionas is a small and traditional village on the northwest coast of Corfu, about 35km from Corfu Town. The village is on a hill and offers amazing views of the Ionian Sea, especially at sunset. Afionas is known for its stone houses, narrow streets, and colorful flowers. In ancient times, sentries were stationed here to watch for hostile invaders. If needed, they would signal Angelokastro, the next point in the defense chain, using beacons. It is a quiet and peaceful place, perfect for relaxing away from busy tourist areas. Afionas has several traditional tavernas with terraces overlooking the sea, offering delicious local cuisine and fresh seafood.
You can park along the side of the road leading up to the village, but be careful not to block traffic.
Near Afionas, you will find Porto Timoni, a double beach that is one of Corfu’s most iconic and photographed locations. Porto Timoni has two beaches next to each other, separated by a small strip of land. One beach faces the open sea, while the other faces a calm bay. A path from Afionas leads down to Porto Timoni. After about 15 to 20 minutes (700 meters), the Twin Bay of Porto Timoni comes into view (most famous photo spot). The trail can be steep and rocky, so comfortable shoes are recommended. There are no facilities at the beach, so bring a bottle of water with you. You can also reach Porto Timoni by boat from Agios Georgios Pagon beach. Click here to view the location on Google Maps.
Nearby, there is a tiny chapel built in a cleft in the rocks. The story says that many years ago, a picture of Saint Stylianos was found on the hillside. The picture was taken to the village square outside Saint Yiannis Church. After a few days, the picture disappeared and was found again on the hillside at Porto Timoni. Because of this, the small chapel was built there. Click here to view the location on Google Maps.
Afionas and Porto Timoni are perfect places to visit if you love nature and a great place to watch the sunset over the sea.

WARNING: This hike is not recommended for anyone who is unsteady on their feet.
